The Head of Civil Works Procurement at Aldesa in Spain, José Luis López Ruiz, together with the First Vice President of the Government of Spain, María Jesús Montero, and the President of the Provincial Council of Seville, Javier Fernández, attended the official inauguration of the Huesna System water infrastructure (Seville).
The construction and execution of these works, made possible thanks to Aldesa’s efforts, enable water to be transported by gravity from the Huesna reservoir to the Villanueva del Río y Minas drinking water treatment plant (DWTP), thereby benefiting more than 250,000 residents in the area.
The project, completed in 2024, consisted of the construction of a 1,400-mm-diameter pipeline—built in two sections—with a total length of 9.5 kilometers, of which 6.3 kilometers run through a tunnel, making it possible to convey a flow with a capacity of up to 2.5 m³/s.
The execution of this project required an investment of €34.1 million, which on the one hand delivers annual energy savings of 10 GWh and, on the other, reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 89%. The new infrastructure also guarantees water quality by abstracting water directly from the reservoir rather than from the river, resulting in a 10% reduction in reservoir releases and increased reliability by eliminating dependence on a pumping system.
In this way, Aldesa once again demonstrates its strength in delivering demanding and complex projects, and above all its ability to provide solutions that enhance infrastructure performance, improve efficiency and environmental sustainability in a region, and ultimately improve the quality of life of the people who benefit from it.
